Cfo Airports

[This is preliminary documentation and subject to change.]

Cfo Airports is a stand-alone clone of the "Go To Airport" dialog available in Microsoft® Flight Simulator 2002. The purpose behind Cfo Airports is to provide a way to view and search for airports installed in the Flight Simulator, without having to run the program.

The Cfo Airports dialog looks and works very much like the Flight Simulator dialog; if you know how to use the Flight Simulator dialog, then you know how to use Cfo Airports.

In addition to the basic search functionality, Cfo Airports also provides an enhanced clone of the Flight Simulator Facilities Information dialog, (available in the Simulator on the Map View), which displays the details of a selected airport. There is also a Properties dialog that will show you which file holds the AFD information for a selected airport.

Finally, Cfo Airports will work with either Flight Simulator 2002, or Combat Flight Simulator 2. If both simulators are installed on your system, Cfo Airports will allow you to select which one you want to work with.

Installation

The Cfo Airports program can be installed anywhere on your system. Flight Simulator 2002 and, or Combat Flight Simulator 2 must be properly installed and set up. Cfo Airports uses "index" files that are created by the simulator during set up, and which are updated by the simulator when you make any scenery changes.

A Brief Look

As noted above, Cfo Airports is designed as a clone of the Flight Simulator's "Go To Aiport" dialog, and therefore looks very similar:

Here's what it looks like after loading the CFS2 data:

You may right-click an entry in the airports list for a context menu that lets you choose to view either the selected airport's facility information, or the airport's properties.

The facilities information is, as noted above, displayed in a manner very similar to the Flight Simulator's Facility Information dialog, available under the Map View.

Just like under the Flight Simulator, you can select the information displayed, and copy it to the clipboard. Cfo Airports includes other information, in addition to the standard data shown by the Flight Simulator. For example, here is the information displayed by Cfo Airports for KHEF:

In addition to the facility information, you can select Properties from the context menu and display information about the location of the airport data:

The properties dialog shows you which file the airport data lives in, as well as the location, (offset), of the data within the file.

If you hold your mouse cursor over the file name, a "tip" will appear that give the full path to the file.
